Tokyo, Japan June 2009 Here I am back in Tokyo, because I stayed in Narita area close to the airport, there isn't any Yodobashi or Bic Camera departmental shops nearby!!! I'm determine to get to any of those shops, did my online "tracking" using google earth and found closest one would be Yodobashi Camera in Chiba district. Using my "charm" on Japanese girls and "wonderful" luck for that day, I made my way to Chiba.... From JR Narita station ----33mins-------------480 YEN-------------------> JR Chiba station
MY REWARDS !!!! My next highlight of this trip is my flight on Singapore Airlines A380 back to Singapore, first time on the A380 even though I take alot of SQ flights and also first time trying out their Suite class seat, suppose to be Class beyond First lei.... The seats in the center were like mirror image of the one across, I really thought there was a mirror there in the first place. Here's how it look from the other end of the seat, where your "lover" suppose to seat across.. ya, Max 2 passengers in the compartment the warning says!!! And here's the yummy courses of meals... oh check out the headset, it's BOSH lei... after being on the B773ER First class and this A380 Suite Class seats, my verdict is A380 Suite WINS!! I like the privacy where you can close the door and window, the distance of the TV screen is much further then the 777 ones so my eyes isn't that strain after that much of movies, the seat is so much better like a "boss" arm chair unlike the 777 like a luxury oversized sofa seat, the toilet is SO much bigger, yes, high mile club inside is no problem, any position you like!! October 2008 Just did a 4 days trip to Tokyo. Quite disappointed with this trip as there's isn't ANY Gundam to show! I can't get Macross Frontier Valkyie VF-25F in any of the Bic Camer or Yodobasho Camera. I went Akihabara, Shinjuku stores can't find at all, WTH !! I also visited Manadarake stores in Akihabara, (Complex) and Nakano Store but found NONE of the SD I wanted. My heart sank big time. Too much of a sad trip for me. Next month I'm going Nagoya, and please may there be BANDAI for me!! Oh, I bought a Canon Powershot camera and shall take some better pictures of my works now on. Osaka, Japan November 2008
Another long awaited OVERKILL! It's been some time since I managed to grab so many SD back home. So happy when I saw the re-released SD placed on the shelves and I just quickly grab them, some boxes only left the last one there and phew phew so heng! Also got the latest Gundam 00 Exia kit. And also Macross Valkyrie VF-25S! I am so ready to build it!
Kyoto, Japan
April 2008
Here's some photos that was taken when I made the trip to Kyoto with my family. Can't say much about Kyoto just that I think the prefect time to be there is the cherry blossom time and cooling weather for all the walking. Lots of temple and shrines to visit there. Those who love walking and photography should enjoy the place. My suggestion is to spend 2 days there due to all the slow walking around. There's a direct train from Kansai Airport to Kyoto.
Osaka, Japan
April 2008
Another OVERKILL !?! Indeed but not with SDs instead it's MG and BBs this time round. Holiday trip with my whole family so I have more hands to help me to carry! We were there for the cherry blossom season and it's been great. Spend 6 days there went touring around Osaka and Kyoto. Could have visited more places but better save some other times...heee... anywhere, here's my purchases this time round. There's suppose to be 2 more boxes of the same Valkyries which I helped one of the forum guy to buy. Let's see if I can managed to sell off the MGs to support my SDs collection!
November 2007
Back from Osaka and it's OVERKILL this time round till I felt so OVER BOARD with my purchases!! I bought a total of 14 boxes of SDs/BB Gundams! 5thluna, a Japanese net friend who lives in Osaka happened to surf into my website and he guided me to Mandarake store in Umeda and also Yodobashi-Umeda. I only managed to pick up 4 boxes in Mandarake as it seems like 5thluna had gotten the ones I wanted too! Disappointed, I went to Yodobashi Camera which is nearby and WoooHooo.. it's like a small scale Gundam warehouse there! So many Gundams to choose from. As I only target SDs, so gotten quite a number there, that makes my trip! Then headed back to Numba and Den Den town for the Mandarake store there and found another 2! Yippee... Spent over YEN6000 felt so guilty but for my collections, I DON'T CARE! As of now, I owns 65 SDs Gundam! The problem is I'm running out of space for the boxes, my display cabinet is not up yet and I'm not working on them!!! Arrrgghhh... P.S. I got Fukuoka trip coming in 2 months time.... oh no..
October 2007
This post shouldn't be posted here under Osaka but I dun want to create more posting. Here's what I gotten in Hokkaido during my holiday there. I managed to locate Mandarake store in Sapporo but quite sad that they didn't carry any new models so only gotten 4 boxes of SD. Not easy to locate any stores selling Gundams, in fact I couldn't find any though my other mate told me he managed to see one around, sad.
September 2007
Here's another "stock taking" of my favourite SD Gundams at my favourite "hunting" ground Osaka, Den Den Town. At some good price too! Also got some Mr. Hobby paints, believe it or not, it only cost slight more then a dollar.
June 2007
Something which I always love to head to Japan anytime, apart from the nice people of japan, the food, the weather, the 100 Yen shops and that's GUNDAM!!!
Finally I found my shopping paradise! And its in Osaka, Den Den Town. The whole freaking street selling anime figures and toys, from Batman to Ultraman, from remote controls crafts to BB Guns. And best of all, there's Osaka Gundam shop there too, 2 floors.
But the grestest achievement out of this trip is getting 6 boxes of SD Gundams at only less then SIN $20 !!!! Can't imagine that! in SIN, each box would cost me about $10 each, can you imagine how much the price has been marked up when it reaches our shores? BTW, if you happen to be heading to Japan in search of Gundams models, go to this store call Mandarake I have been to the ones in Tokyo and Osaka, best price ever!
I always had problems finding stores oversea selling gundam. So now I hope to help those coming to Singapore find cheap Gundam! Are prices in Singapore cheap? Yes, cheaper compared to Australia/China/New Zealand. No when compared with Hong Kong/Japan/Korea. And here's the list, I added Google Earth location for you too.

I have always wanted to showcase my SD Gundam and hopefully there's another of you out there who enjoys this collection too. I can't remember which Gundam I started off with, I think its one of the fancy ones. Initally I only started off with putting the parts together and stick on the given stickers to make it look slightly better and that's it. Looks good enough though. Then it started off in year 2000 when I had a lot of free time while doing a course, one of my course mate is working on his Tamiya model cars using spray can paints and the other putting up a MG Gundam. And it so happen I bought a SD Gundam and why not paint it? And so there it goes, I got some remaining paints from my mate and Wa La, my first painted SD Gundam and I'm so proud of it then I delicate and given it to my then girlfriend! So its no return from then on cause I got lots of free time! Yup my job pays me to paint Gundam!!! LOL
My "modelling" hobby started off when a tution classmate asking me to help him piece up his collections of battleships, then I saved to start building fighter aircrafts, helicopters and finally Gundams. Not much money then so bought these SD Gundams instead, low cost hobby and a box of paints that's it! Those HG Gundams were gifts from my sister. Though making more money now, but since I had so many SD, just maintain this collection and build up more instead of going into those MG/HG ones right!
And why Gundam... haha.. I also dunno! I didn't watch any of the Gundam anime when I started doing the model. I just like the design of the model that's it. Yup, now I finished watching Gundam Seed Destiny and can relate to the models better. Currently starting to watch Gundam Seed.. haha, the reverse way of follow the anime...
Since I head down to Japan these days, been getting quite a few of them, in fact too much that I have one cupboard deck full of them. Ya those MG/HG ones too which I'm trying to sell off. Its so much cheaper to get them from Japan/Taipei.
UPDATES May 2008:
Finally got a display cabinet from IKEA since it's going on sale. Did a few more layers and places all my SDs inside. Also had some fun taking out all my untouched SDs boxes and placed along side and seems like my roof is not high enough!
UPDATES Feb 2009:
It's getting pretty over crowded in the display cabinet already. Time to create more space. Got my dad to help me buy 4 pieces of cut glass and I created 4 more levels in the cabinet. Though there's more space now but no matter how I place the SDs, still looks packed. My ideal display is actually creating steps where all the SDs can stand in nice orderly rows, everyone can be seems clearly with display labels! Guess that have to wait for my next new place.

Wife got me this MG Unicorn Gundam as my birthday present but I have been dragging it too long to complete. Got a friend to get it for me at $40 in Japan and the box was laying there as display. Finally took it with me along during on of the Indian stay and spend 2 full days just cutting and fitting every pieces. Heard from one of the MG modellers that this was one of the "most" pieces Gundam he ever built. I was lucky then to try my hands on it. Anywhere, I didn't do much to it since it's meant to be white. I was suppose to spray paint it as well as doing more shading on the darker colors but decided to give it a miss. Decalling it took me another full day, lucky I also bought the water decal and it looks great with it then it's lousy square stickers that came with the box. A light top coat and there's the finished product. IF one day I get into airbrushing, then prehaps I wash away the topcoat and redo everything... I..F..
HG 1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam
For those who have seem my list of Gundams that I have worked on so far might notice how come I made another Strike Freedom of 1/144 scale? The truth is this Gundam is from a beginner class that I attended called the Scale Modelling Club in Kampong Glam CC. The course over a span of 2 weekends teaches basic Gundam kit making. I did pick up skill of how to use the cutter properly and sanding technics. In fact I did more then the class taught cause I even cement the steamline and sand them away till it's hardly noticeably. Quite proud of those works.
I didn't attend the 2nd class which suppose to teach panel lining and top coat, gosh the 2 important skill I wanted to learn. But as usual, I can't wait. I used Gundam markers to draw the panel lines then use alcohol to thin them down but as usual not uniform. I even bought a Micro 0.1mm marker thinking its smaller then Gundam ones which I was wrong, it's the same! Ok, I even bought a big can of RJ clear lacquer as top coat which I seem the guys in the class talk about. Turns out to be a rather glossy finish. Oh, another thing, all the default colors are as of the plastic that came with it, I did another technique which I came across which is to sand down the glossy finish of the original plastic so it looks more dull. Effect turns out quite nice. No need to sray paint and have a uniform coat, best!
>> Are you able to spot the steamline over both the shoulder pieces? Ya there's where the joint lines is but my magic sanding as covered it well away.
RELAX...
>> So much flexible in the HG as compared to the NG ones.
>>
Left = NG, Right = HG

My catch for this trip!
For those heading to Taipei and wanted to look for some Gundams, here's the walking directory that I put up, hope it helps and smoothen your search. It's definetly worth it with the prices there!
I found this site that introduce the toys stores in Taipei: http://toysdaily.com/03shop/travel/shopping_taiwan.htm
Wan Nian Commercial Building
I'm sure everyone will be able to go to this building cause it's right in Xi Meng Ting shopping area, every tour group will sure to include this area if you are not the Free & Easy people. If you are in a tour group, ask your tour guide where's the entrance to Ximen MRT station, navigate your way from there. Oh, there's a couple of hobby shops in the building, prices are so VOMIT BLOOD when u compare to Singapore and the range is FANASTIC. I bet you start scolding yourself why didn't bring another cargo bag!
Directions:
-
Located at Xi Men Ting area (Ximen MRT station). Road intersaction of Emei St and Xining South Rd.
-
From Ximen MRT station, take Exit 6.
-
At Exit 6, to your right is Ximen Pedestrian area, on the left is a road junction (Chengdu Rd), head to the right.
-
Short walk down is a Y junction, walk left to be on Emei St.
-
Just a few meters ahead is a road junction and you see the sign on the building as of picture above.
-
4th level is the main floor where the hobby shops are. Happy Shopping!
Taipei Underground Mall:
Good to visit place especially after you visited GBT below and itchy to buy something. It's located in the basement of Taipei Main MRT Station/Taipei Main Railway Station. But one thing I hate is its dame hard to find! But prices there are nose bleeding too! They often have sale prices to get rid of stocks. There this shop call iToy's to go to.
Directions:
-
From Taipei Main Station MRT, head towards Exit 1 or follow the signs overhead stating Taipei City Mall
-
Some confusion here when u come up to the TRA station, all the signs just disappear! Hopefully you ended up at the spot where my picture was taken, toilet in front of you and there's a auto door to the right that leds to a basement carpark. That's where you head to in order to get to the other side of the station through the basement carpark. Once out of the carpark, turn right to remain course to Exit 1
Keep looking up to lookout for the sign to Taipei City Mall, it's actually one level down below the basement, something like B2 level.
-
There's a couple of shops that's around the exit 6 region. Good Luck Searching!
Gundam Base Taipei (GBT)
I'm not sure if it's open by Bandai but there's definitely a Bandai (Taiwan) branch. It's a big store with 2 partition. One showcasing most of Gundam fully assembled kits of all grades and the other selling Gundam kits. But word of advise, prices there is on the steep side.
Directions:
-
From Taipei Main Station MRT, take Exit 5 (Nanyang St)
-
At Exit 5, turn left, the building in front is K-Mall
-
1st level sells IT stuffs, GBT is located in the 3rd level on the right of the escalator
The address 台北車站K-Mall(原大亞百貨)3樓.
1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam
A gift from my sis when she was holidaying in Japan. It's also her when I receive my first HG Wing Gundam and Clear version DeathSlayer for my birthday. Thank You Sis!
Regarding these 1/144 scale model which I first worked on. Usually I don't fancy them when I see them display on stores mainly because I find it too rigid not much moving parts. And there's this thing about small heads in me! And looking at the before painting picture on the right as compared to the painted one on the right, much difference right. Those pictures on the box always give you a false impression if you're new to Gundam models, always looks Great on the Box! I did quite a bad lining work on this model. I'm in the process of switching my paints maybe to Mr. Hobby. Currently I use a mix of Model Color and Mr. Hobby. Also going to get more color markers from 100 Yen, seems to work well and cheap! So presenting another "operational" Gundam!
No.39 Gundam Ez-8
This is my FIRST painted SD Gundam which I mentioned about in my post on my "Gundam Beginning History". The only model that was painted using acrylic paint so handling wasn't a problem. All my other models were painted using water soluble paint mainly because I found it easiler to clean my brushes and the colors looks mild. But the problem with that was some color especially red and blue are dame "fragile" meaning they peel off or leaves finger prints even though dried. To counter this I wear wear gloves and spray a layer of Primer on them after compleletion. Anywhere, the word is HANDS OFF!
A box casing is specially constructed with cut outs of the box to showcase this robot, why so special?
No.36 Gundam Heavy Arms
Ah, this the kind of red that I talked about. I love colors that are flat not glossy. I started buying SD models that are away from the traditional blue and white!
